CBD gummies are hemp-based edibles that can offer soothing, calming effects. These effects can help you enjoy deeper relaxation and better bliss. They may even encourage minor pain relief.**
But how?
Today, we’re going to explore how CBD works in the body’s endocannabinoid system. Specifically, we’ll investigate CBD’s potential as a reliever for minor aches and pains.** We’ll also look at the kind of CBD that goes into our CBD gummies: full spectrum CBD and broad spectrum CBD. We’ll touch on what these extracts are. Then, we’ll explore why they’re well-suited for CBD gummies. And lastly, we’ll help you decide if it’s a good idea to try CBD gummies for minor pain relief.**

Here, we’ll get to know CBD gummies and the effects of CBD on the body.
What Is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant that offers multiple wellness-based benefits. Cannabis has over 120 known compounds of this sort, which we call cannabinoids. The interesting thing about cannabinoids is how they interact with the human body. These cannabis-based compounds are thought to mimic chemicals that the body already makes: endocannabinoids.**
When do we get to the gummies?!
Easy there, sport. Science first, then the CBD gummies.
Pain Regulation and The Endocannabinoid System
In the late 1980s, endocannabinoid receptors were first discovered in lab rats. A few years later, we started to get a more complete picture. It turns out that all mammals (and close to all creatures) have an endocannabinoid system. Universally, this system helps maintain homeostasis (or internal balance) in several of the body’s systems. These systems include the central and peripheral nervous systems, the immune system, and more.
The endocannabinoid system dispatches little neurotransmitters, called endocannabinoids. These molecules bind to receptors in the nervous system. Then, they help regulate vital functions like mood, memory, sleep, appetite, motor control, and several other areas — including pain management.
The Endocannabinoid System and Phytocannabinoids
So, where does CBD come into the equation? Plant-based cannabinoids, called phytocannabinoids, act very much like the body’s own endocannabinoids.** Cannabinoids, like CBD, don’t bind to the nervous system’s receptors in the exact same way as endocannabinoids. However, they do interact with the endocannabinoid system and stimulate a nearly identical response.**
Each cannabinoid has its own unique characteristics and benefits. For example, CBN, or cannabinol, helps largely with sleep. In fact, it’s called the “ultimate relaxation cannabinoid.” THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, affects several functions, including sleep, appetite, motor control, pain management, and others. But what about CBD? What body functions does CBD affect? Does CBD help with pain?
We’ll get to that in a second. But first, a quick sidebar on CBD, THC, and the difference between cannabis hemp and cannabis marijuana.
Hemp, Marijuana, and the Cannabinoid THC
Legally, at least, we separate cannabis into two different categories: cannabis hemp and cannabis marijuana. Hemp is cannabis with less than 0.3% THC content. Along with its various therapeutic qualities, THC is also the cannabinoid that gets you “high.” Hemp has so little THC that it is mostly non-intoxicating. Marijuana, on the other hand, is cannabis with over 0.3% THC — sometimes way over, in the neighborhood of 30% THC! When we talk about CBD oils and CBD products, such as our CBD gummies, we’re talking about hemp-derived CBD.
Now, let’s get back to our discussion of how CBD affects the body, including CBD’s effects on pain processing.** (And yes, we’ll get to those delicious CBD gummies in another minute or two.)
The Effects of CBD | CBD for Pain
CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the two major cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, along with THC. CBD is sort of a Swiss Army knife in its effects on the endocannabinoid system.** Cannabidiol, like other cannabinoids, bolsters the body’s various systems. This reaction is known to have a positive effect on several of the body’s most important functions.**
Research is still ongoing regarding the effects of CBD for minor pain relief. And that’s the thing about CBD research (including research on CBD for pain): it’s still very young. The FDA, in fact, doesn’t yet allow CBD companies to make claims about the medicinal applications of cannabidiol. So, we legally can’t tell you that CBD works for pain or make a medical recommendation for CBD gummies for pain.
But we can say that people have been using hemp for minor pain relief for thousands of years. This practice even dates all the way back to ancient China. In the 1930s, hemp was inexplicably lumped in with marijuana and ultimately criminalized. This one swift step stigmatized a once traditional pain remedy. It took the 2018 Farm Bill to restore the right to cultivate, produce, and sell hemp-related products nationally. So, research has been a bit slow in catching up.
Types of CBD Oil | The Best CBD Oil for CBD Gummies
We’ve taken a tour through the endocannabinoid system and gotten you up to speed on the history of hemp-derived CBD. Plus, we’ve explored the research on CBD for minor pain relief. Now, let’s get into the kinds of CBD oil. And let’s see why full spectrum and broad spectrum hemp oil are used in our CBD gummies.
Full Spectrum CBD Oil
Full spectrum CBD oil contains the plant’s complete cannabinoid profile. Plus, full spectrum extract carries hemp’s diverse collection of flavonoids, terpenes, and healthy fatty acids.
CBD oil can be extracted from the hemp plant in a variety of ways. The cleanest, most efficient way is CO2 extraction, which is the only method we use at CBDfx. We only need a single extraction to pass through the buds, leaves, and stalks of the hemp plant. This step helps us pull all of the cannabinoid content out of the plant, plus terpenes and flavonoids. The resulting CBD oil, which contains all of the chemical contents of the hemp plant, is called full spectrum CBD oil.
The biggest advantage of full spectrum CBD oil is the Entourage Effect. This phenomenon occurs when the compounds work together to bolster one another. The Entourage Effect can lead to a deeper, richer CBD experience. One downside, though, of full spectrum CBD is that it does have close to 0.3% THC. Now, this amount isn’t intoxicating. But it can possibly show up as a false-positive on a drug test. Another potential downside is that you can taste more of the hemp in full spectrum CBD products. This extra hempy taste is thanks to full spectrum CBD’s high concentration of terpenes and flavonoids.

Broad Spectrum CBD Oil
Broad spectrum CBD contains undetectable levels of THC. Though, it still carries the plant’s terpene profile, flavonoids, and non-THC cannabinoids.
To remove the remaining THC — or at least to take it down to a non-detectable level — we run full spectrum CBD oil through an additional filtering process. While this does remove the remaining trace levels of THC, it also takes with it some of the other cannabinoids. Still, this remaining CBD oil does retain enough other cannabinoid content to give it some of the Entourage Effect. This is broad spectrum CBD.
Broad spectrum CBD provides a great middle ground. It helps you to possibly experience the Entourage Effect. Though, it mitigates any potentially negative feelings you might have about THC.** In other words, broad spectrum CBD is perfect for CBD gummies!
CBD Isolate
There is a third kind of oil, called CBD isolate. This refers to CBD oil with everything removed except for the CBD. It contains no other cannabinoids, no terpenes — nothing except 99% pure CBD. CBD isolate can be found in some CBD vaping products and CBD bath bombs.
The Best CBD Gummies for Minor Pain Relief
Let’s get back to that broad spectrum CBD oil. Because of its ideal middle ground between the power of the full spectrum CBD oil and the purity of the CBD isolate, broad spectrum CBD oil is perfect for a variety of CBD products, including CBD gummies.
